Veteran Nursing Executive Kristin Schmidt Joins Leadership Team
PALM SPRINGS – June 6, 2013 – Desert Regional Medical Center has named Kristin Schmidt, a veteran nursing executive from the Phoenix metropolitan area, as Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for the hospital, which employs more than 780 nurses.
Schmidt comes to the Coachella Valley most recently from John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital, where she was Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services for the 205-bed hospital in Phoenix, AZ. She also has held the Chief Nursing Officer position at IASIS Healthcare – Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa, AZ, and at Vanguard Health System – West Valley Hospital in Goodyear, AZ. She also held executive roles, including Chief Executive Officer, at Arizona Spine and Joint Hospital in Mesa, AZ.

Schmidt holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Arizona State University and received her master’s degree in business administration from Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University. She has been online faculty for the University of Phoenix for eleven years, teaching organizational leadership and management courses through the business school. Schmidt maintains many professional affiliations including AONE, ACHE, and NAHQ. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has an Advanced Certifications as a Nurse Executive as well as a Certification in Health Care Quality. She has served in leadership roles at the Arizona ACHE chapter for the last eight years and is President of the Health Advisory Publishers Editorial Board. She also is serving as an editorial board member for AONE. She is a designated new student mentor and a founding member of the Sigma Theta Tau Chi Chapter for American Sentinel University.
Desert Regional Medical Center is a 387-bed tertiary acute care hospital located in Palm Springs, CA.
