Desert Regional Medical Center has kicked off National Nutrition Month with activities designed to help employees and the community eat healthier.
The nutrition staff has committed to highlighting healthy choices during meals and snacks for the month of March. Those choices will be flagged with the “Get Your Plate In Shape” logo that was created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to promote Nutrition Month this year.
Hospital dietitians will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Friday during March to answer questions from staff, patients and the public. They will be posted next to the cooking demonstration station, where chef Erwin Kraus will be out front preparing a healthy meal that can be purchased for lunch.
“We want to continue the focus on wellness that Desert Regional Medical Center began at the Clinton Foundation’s ‘Health Matters’ conference in January,” said Rick Tinsley, director of food and nutrition services. “Our registered dietitians are ready to answer questions. You can also ask Chef Erwin for the secrets behind his healthy recipes, and take a recipe home to make yourself.”
The Desert Palms Café, a past winner of the Taste of Palm Springs, is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
