Desert Regional Medical Center will present a free seminar, “Arthritis Pain of the Hand and Wrist,” from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept 15 at the Mizell Senior Center in Palm Springs. Dr. Ramin Pooyan, DO, an orthopedic surgeon at the Institute of Clinical Orthopedics and Neurosciences (ICON), will speak about the causes and treatments of arthritis pain in the hands and wrists. An open discussion period will follow.
“Because of the constant reliance on our hands, pain, stiffness and swelling associated with arthritis is especially disruptive to our daily lives,” said Ramin Pooyan, DO. “Surgical intervention may provide pain relief and help improve function when more conservative treatments, such as anti-inflammatory medications and steroids, are unsuccessful.”
Some of the common surgical procedures performed for hand and wrist arthritis include joint replacement, fusion, and tendon interposition arthroplasty, Pooyan said.
Dr. Pooyan is a fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity specialist who joined Desert Regional Medical Center in 2011.
