1. Schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor
Get a clear picture about what will happen at the hospital and make sure you know who will be your treating physician.
2. Assign a point person
Designate a loved one, family member or friend to be the point person authorized to communicate with your medical team if necessary.

There are rules in place to ensure you have a safe, secure hospital stay. Be sure to follow all the safety rules during your visit.
FAQs: Before your hospital visit
We recommend that you complete all pre-admission testing 2 to 10 days before your surgery. Your physician is in charge of ordering the tests, which may include:
- Chest X-ray
- Urine test
- Blood test
Will there be additional paperwork once I arrive at the hospital?
Please use our online pre-registration tool before your visit. This should cover the majority of paperwork needed. However, there may be an additional form or two that you will need to fill out when you check in. You may be asked to complete the following:
- Acknowledgement of Receipt of Notice of Privacy Practices
- Authorization to Release Protected Health Information During This Admission
- Consent for Treatment and Conditions For Admission

Are there any diet restrictions prior to surgery?
Ask your physician for instructions on what you can and cannot eat or drink before surgery.
Should I stop taking any of my medication before surgery?
Talk to your physician before your surgery date.
What if I’m sick before my surgery?
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms including a fever lasting more than 24 hours,
notify your physician.
Can I drive home after surgery?
Please plan for a friend, family member or acquaintance to drive you home after your surgery. Also, wait until you have clearance from your doctor to drive.

Can I bathe, brush my teeth or wear makeup for surgery?
Bathing and brushing your teeth is perfectly fine. However, please limit makeup and remove all body piercings and jewelry.
When should I arrive for my procedure?
Arrive at least two hours before your scheduled surgery.
Will friends and family be able to visit after surgery?
You will be in post anesthesia care after your surgery, so visitation will be restricted. If you are moved to a room, your guests will be allowed to see you.
What if I need to cancel my surgery?
Call the hospital’s surgery scheduling department and your physician as soon as possible.
