Radiation Oncology

When you need radiation therapy, we have the experts and technology

The radiation oncology team at Desert Regional Medical Center has the expertise and experience you need for quality care after a cancer diagnosis. Our team treats a variety of cancers and also has experience in bone marrow and stem cell transplantation using state-of-the-art technologies including:

• Three Dimensional (3-D) Treatment Planning
• Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
• Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT)
• Brachytherapy

Three Dimensional (3-D) Treatment Planning

We use Computerized Tomography (CT) images to create a three-dimensional model that helps us target your tumors more precisely and minimizes damage to healthy surrounding tissue.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)

Our radiation oncology team and neurosurgery team collaborated to bring you the Stereotactic Radiosurgery program. With SRS, our team can identify and treat malignant brain tumors with a single large dose of radiation to a small area. If you have a benign brain lesion, SRS may be an option for you.

Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT)

With Stereotactic Radiotherapy, your therapy can be completed in one to five days rather than several weeks using this external beam radiation therapy. If you have a small tumor, SRT may be an optimal treatment for you.

Brachytherapy

If you need brachytherapy, our radiation oncology team places a radioactive source in or adjacent to targeted tissues. The two main types of brachytherapy are Permanent Seed Implants and Temporary Seed Loadings.

Permanent Seed Implants are a common treatment for prostate cancer.

Temporary Seed Loadings are placed in your catheter, in a needle or other appliances for a brief period of time and then removed.

These technologies allow our radiation oncology team to target abnormal cells and minimize damage to surrounding healthy tissue. The team is led by a radiation oncologist, who will recommend a treatment plan to you should you need radiation therapy.
